Wassup guys? Just picked up a 2006 Accord EX V6 w/121k miles on it. How do I know if the timing belt has been done? P.O. said he has no idea on if it's been changed or not. Do y'all change the water pump at the same time or am I okay with doing just the belt, tensioner, etc? I was going to go with the CLOYES BK329 kit.

I’d do the pump too. I’d probably go for an Aisin kit, that said I’ve heard of issues with the tensioners making noise, haven’t had one come back with that noise thankfully.

The Cloyes TB is Continental.

The Gates belt might be worth buying since Gates is the OE supplier, and for some V6 Hondas even the aftermarket Gates is from Unitta/Japan.

Buy the Gates kit without the water pump, and get the WP from the dealer. The Hydraulic tensioner assembly isn't included in the TB kit, so buy it separately.

From Rock Auto, buy the Gates TCK329 timing belt kit and the Aisin BTH001 tensioner. And of course, the pump from the dealer.

The water pump is driven by the timing belt, so you should do it. Some people report an annoying warbling noise with the Aisin WP in the Honda V6. It doesn't cause any damage; it's just annoying. It's caused by a mis-casting at an angle. Honda sells a shim to correct it, but you're better off just buying the pump from the dealer.

The gates timing belt kit comes with the tenisoner and waterpump. Unless, I buy the gates belt only.

Gates offers the timing belt kit with or without the water pump.
The Gates TCKWP329 has the water pump.
The Gates TCK329 does not.

The latter kit without the WP comes with the tensioner pulley, but not the tensioner itself. That's OK because the tensioner included in the other kit is Chinese. The Aisin tensioner ships from the same warehouse as the Gates kit without the pump.

The Gates water pump is also Chinese and possibly even worse than the Aisin pump.

I'd go Aisin or Cloyes, especially the water pump as Gates are junk. Had to replace my kids Gates wp after replacing the timing belt and wp <6 months prior. Was a Mazda Protoge and w went with the Gates kit, never again. Never had any problems w Aisin in my Honda's or Volvos's.
