Doing a little maintenance on a '93 3VZ-E auto trans. I've cleaned the TB but upon looking down it with a flashlight I can see a lot of gunk farther down. Any ideas on how to do it myself so I don't have to take it to the Stealer. Is Seafoam the way to go?

If someone is familiar with this engine, some detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.

It seems that you should either leave it alone, or clean it our completely. Unless you do a real good job, you might wake up more problems. The throttle body bore/plate area is critical, though - sounds like you have this covered.

You need to take the intake off to clean it, then use non-chlorinated brake cleaner of Berryman's B-12. If you try to clean it on the car you will dilute your oil and possible dislodge some large chunks of carbon.

SeaFoam is good for upper cylinder carbon cleaning.Amsoil Power Foam is what you need.This is my procedure for cleaning my upper intake.BTW,this procedure will call for an oil change afterwards and possibly new plugs;
1)Buy the Amsoil PF.
2)Buy a length of 1/8" plastic tubing. (about 3')
3)Tape the tubing to the spray tube of the PF.
4)Either remove the throttle body or keep it held in the open position.
5)Start feeding the tubing into the intake,trying to get it to the farthest runner.
6)Release some PF into each runner as you withdraw the tubing.Do this on each side.
PF comes out as a foam,so it will cling to the walls of the intake runners and dissolve the carbon as it then turns into a liquid and runs down into the cylinders.Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.Make sure you are outside of the garage before starting.You will see 3 times the smoke then if you were using SeaFoam.Repeat if necessary.Take it for a few miles drive then change the oil,and plugs if needed.
