So the better half has a '02 Celica GT (now with about 135k miles) with the well designed 1ZZ-FE. As you can see he drives mainly freeway, I met him when it had around 120k miles.
He admitted he did not stay on top of oil changes. About 95% of the oil changes were done at Sears using Castrol GTX 5w30. Not bad, however he said that on a few occasions he went about 10-13k miles between changes. Well the top half of the dipstick is covered in varnish, the tip has a small bit of sludge when you pull it out to check the oil and the timing chain used to rattle a bit at idle. However the car still runs very well , averages about 38 MPG and burns no oil.
Anyways the car has been on a strict diet of Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 at 5,000 mile intervals for the past 15,000 miles. Well in that time the timing chain has quit rattling at idle, the engine has quieted down and some of the varnish on the dipstick is beginning to flake off so it must be cleaning.
Now I am wondering will this be sufficient to significantly clean up the engine?

BTW - I have to say I am extremely impressed with the Toyota 1ZZ-FE. Pretty **** durable and relatively maintenance free.
