Chrysler Warranty confusion help.

Can someone explain this to me? It's about my friend's 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup.

It reads:

Powertrain warranty (7 Year/70,000 miles):

The Powertrain Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed (less a $100 deductible per repair visit at the end of the 3 Year/36,000 miles Basic Limited Warranty) to repair defective powertrain component.

My friend's truck has a seal leak on his rear differential. Do I have to pay a $100 deductible to get this fixed?

I don't think that seals in the rear end (or the rear end) is covered with Chrysler's warranty.

If it was a FWD unit maybe... READ the warranty carefully and see if it is covered.

But yes, $100 for each time they work on a item that is covered. Too bad they got rid of that warranty and went with the one they have now.

do it yourself for about 40 bucks, thats with 3 quarts of synthetic gear oil, and black RTV. Meh, even if you need a socket and wrench, buy a open end wrench at sears for like 4 bucks.

The bolts are extremely rusted and I don't have a blow torch.

Man, if I had the money for nice tools and equipment, I would be more of a man and fix everything myself. I only have cheap chinese made tools and I only do basic repairs and maintenance.

Thanks. I thought there was a typo somewhere in the warranty book.

According to the warranty book, it's covered. However, those Dodge dealers are friggin' shady.

Yes, it is covered under the 7/70. yes you have to pay the $100.

My local mopar dealer was kind eough to change the water pump, tensioner, timing belt, cam and crank seals under my warranty because the ah cam seal was leaking Saved me over a 1000$ or a days wrok if I did it myself. I gladly paid the 100$ deductable.

My local Dodge dealer (Chesterfield Dodge in Richmond) replaced the entire dash (2001 Ram 1500) for 50 bucks and it was clearly out of warranty. I told them the cracks could be a safety issue and they agreed. I' have no complaints with Chrysler service.

Dealers are people too. The problem with the so-called "shady" dealers is the few dishonest ones out there who will do things like overcharge/sell unnecessary services, deny warranty at any inkling, and just generally bone their customers and employees are also the ones you hear about all the time. They are the few who are also struggling financially (go figure) so their motivation to continue providing inferior service creates a vicious cycle.

Hopefuly the recent round of closings initiated by the economic downturn has culled at least some of the bad members from the Chrysler/Dodge dealer herd.

Excellent points. The Dodge dealer my family has dealt with since the late 60's is great. Not all dealers are crooks.

I saw your previous post on this where you said the leak is coming from the pinion seal. If you don't have the tools and the know how to do this job right you're better off paying the $100.

I just found the mechanic that would do it for $65.
