Came off friends jeep 4.0 6cyl...engine has 210k...this filter has 7800 miles on it..unknown oil brand..kinda ugly imho but filter is doin its job...

Looks fine to me, good amount of miles with no defects.
this should be mopar #090 as shown on can, which is putolator 14670, Mobil 204, Napa/wix *1085 ?, fram16
Basically a puro classic with thread end bypass, similar to a motorcraft IMO. 7500mi might be reason for wavy (pleats, not that it matters

Factory fill?

Has done 210k with 7800 on that filter.

Thanks for posting. That looks like an amazingly high amount of dirt, sand and other debris in the filter. In fact, I can't recall seeing any filter cut open with more debris. I would have some concern that there is some "opening" in the filtration system such as the air cleaner circuit or something. It looks like there is some excess contamination coming from somewhere. I would check that everything is buttoned up tight and that it isn't sucking dirt somewhere past a filter. In checking my cars in the past, I have sometimes found loose connections which would have allowed in extra dirt if not caught. Good luck.

I was thinking the same thing...I hope the OP dropped the filter base-end down in the old roagy drain pan...

On the plus side, if that is indeed Purolator-made, it bodes well for the stuff they make for the OEMs...like Motorcraft...not having the torn media issue, which will make ME feel better.

More info...98 model...4.0...bought used couple years ago...runs great..knows its sludged up..not gonna do anything to disturb it...knows to watch for oil pressure/oil pump pickup clogging up...more important things in life to worry about..:)....

At that point, you don't want to filter the oil *too* much.... just catch the big chunks, and let the rest go through.

That filter is good for that job right there.

All those particles are probably the sludge getting cleaned out. Shorter interval maybe?

Looked like two photos of two different filter base plates ... ??
