Hey everyone a couple months ago i was looking at a dart and was given the run around at the last minute and backed out. I have received things from chrysler saying i bought a car and even provided the vin......well i tried contacting and never got anywhere and forgot about it. Today chrysler corp called asking how the car was ect and i said we never were allowed to take delivery of it. They said i owned it and they called the dealer. The dealership says i own it but that they sold it to their transport company? Theyre trying to figure it out...what would you do? Id like the car or a similar car if possible but im not really sure where i stand or what to think.

I'd get to the bottom of that fast.

You pulled a credit report lately to make sure you don't have a loan on the thing too...

Well, this sounds fun

I'm getting recall letters from Chrysler (the first for the airbag, the most recent for the side impact airbags, which is a PCM reprogram) but I have access to Witech, so I can do the 2nd one myself. But I actually own a couple of recent Chrysler products.

I would certainly try and figure out what is going on here.

They claimed to Chrysler that they sold it to you to get monthly sales bonuses I bet.A dealer was in the news recently for doing that very thing.Registering test drives as sales.Rule of thumb, dont buy a new car..or even test drive one....and buy only private sale. They get no holdback bonuses from manufacturers...

The dealer marked it as sold so the factory would send them another car. This is a game they play to get more cars on the lot over the allotted amount.

Worry not. No one has a signed contract or a report of sale filed with the local DMV. That dealer is playing fast and loose. Imagine what they do for customers after the sale.

Of course, the first question is why did you let yourself get so stupidly deep into the purchase of a car, and then lose your nerve and back out?

A good portion of this mess is your own fault.

+1

This is your mess, get out of it. Your comments above are poor excuses - somebody is probably driving a car on your name and credit. Be ready to file a police report and get a lawyer.

Really??!?

Hopefully it goes away smoothly, but be ready for this to become messy and expensive, or at least stressful and time-consuming.

I sure hope not, but I suspect someone got your signature, SSN and a few choice other bits of info and bought a car on your name.

get a credit report NOW.
If there is a problem call your attorney and contact your state attorney generals office...

In some cases this may fall under your states lemon law/ breach of contract laws .call a lemon law attorney first it should be free in many cases,
Don't delay in many cases you will be showered with green.

I never signed anything or got that deep into it once again a couple keyboard happy folks gettimg a little to excited. The deepest the situation got was the finance guy was shopping around and said we were approved and had a locked interest rate amd he would wrap it all up and come in to tomorrow with my wife and sign and take the car. Well we came in and he the interest rate we agreed on was different and he said he was hours away from having it done so i said ok well can my eife atleast look at the car because up to that point she hadnt looked at it in real detail and they pulled up the wrong car. I then walked up with keys thanked them for their time and said thanks but no thanks your service sucks.
So where exactly did i do something wrong? Also my credit report has no record of the car being financed ect.
So id ask that instead of assuming stupid things ask first and mrsilv04 i feel like you've had this issue hefore on here. Quite possibly you assume to much and spout off to quickly?

THIS!

I experienced this first hand and they were so brazen at the Honda store I worked for they actually sent the names of their own employees in as the customers! I turned the dealer in to AHM and they promptly sent in a team to investigate and fired the sales manager!

If you were approved, then this would mean that you did provide your SSN, address, a variety of other info typical for obtaining credit.

Im glad you pulled your credit and didn't see anything, but how long ago were you at the dealer? Might it be possible it hasn't shown up yet? I think these credit pulls only refresh once a month or so...

Still be VERY vigilant, and make sure you take this up with real Chrysler.

Some of the suggestions above are somewhat extreme. As you didn't sign anything, and no one is asking you for payment, there's nothing to see here. You could just contact Chrysler and tell them there's a mix up and you didn't buy the car.

Well ive done that they are completely confused and so is the dealers because on their end everythinf shows it was approved and a go and all i have to do is pick up the car. So theyre looking into it.

Not only is that funny, but the most accurate response in this thread!

Hmmm, lets see a dealer has all your personal info including your SS#. Yeah, I'd be a little concerned. The credit inquiry they did will show up immediately. An open account on the credit report may take some time to report. So I would keep tabs on this.

This is why I don't have my SS# on my DL. Because some dealers were pulling my credit report without my authorization.
