Some of the neighbors and I were going to volunteer to build a Christmas scene for the city to replace an old one, but the city does not what anything that says "Christmas" and said there might be someone out there that would get their feelings hurt. This turned out to be blessing. We discovered something better to do. An old man down the street lost his wife to cancer a six months ago and has been having a tough time. We found out that he has no one in this world to turn to so without any preaching or complication we asked him if we could help. The answer, yes. We are cleaning up his house, bought groceries and stuff. We washed everything, cleaned and vacuumed, painted the inside and outside, put a new roof on his house and fixed all the doors and windows. When we asked for help we got it from contractors and individuals with the agreement that this be a private deal with no publicity. They gave time and money. We got his house refinanced with one of those backwards mortgages that pays him, this from a CPA that was not allowed to hold any tools. The CPA got all his bills paid and his tax returns for two years settled and helped with a program to get relief from his wife's hospital bills. We've been six weeks on and it's going to be done this weekend, just in time for Chrismas. I think we got more out of this deal than the old man. Merry Christmas can mean something special. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Helping others is the best Christmas present. Thanks for sharing Lonnie and Merry Christmas

By the way, why wasn't the CPA allowed to hold any tools???

(I'm an accountant)

Drew, the account is actually the head of a large firm and a big chunk of the medical bills were taken care of with one phone call. I was impressed. Mr Accountant was not allowed the use of any tools because he shot someone's lunch with the staple gun, and the cooler and almost his own foot. His pencil was a better tool for him, and safer for us.

With all the bad things that happen daily its nice to see things like this being done. St. Peter will be marking alot of good points down in his book for guys like you.

Mr Accountant shooting someone's lunch with staple gun... that's priceless! Nice job Lonnie. Merry Christmas

Without intending to tread on the RSP ban, I would like to say that helping others just for the sake of doing it is an exalted practice. You are indeed "the man", Lonnie!

Good job, the story sure put a smile on my face.

I used to get upset when life threw me a curve ball (sometimes I still do), but then I began to realize that just like in a Tom Hanks movie, it often turnes out for the best. So now I try to roll with the changes.

Looks like the curve ball the city threw you was for a reason, and you and the crew did a good, no wonderful, job.

P.S. We gotta' cut the accountant some slack. His reason for being there doesn't appear to have been operating the staple gun, BUT he did a bang-up job on those bills!

We finished the house last night and had a pot luck dinner in his new kitchen and living room. Everyone agreed it's a good Christmas, this year.

I feel really good about our little project and we're going to do another one next year. The old man, in six weeks is off sleeping pills, has gained 10 pounds and with his new clothes is out walking every day. And best of all we have been able to keep under the radar of publicity. The only people involved were those that wanted to just help out. We now call a CPA Superman, imagine that.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.
