The vehicle in question is a 2000 Silverado 1500 2wd 5.3 w/ 48k miles.

It has had synthetic oil changes every year since new.

Last OCI was July 2012 at about 43k miles.

I used G-Oil Synthetic 5-30 w/ Amsoil EA 15,000 mile filter.

The OLM has come on and I need to change the oil.

I have 3 choices:

1. Drain and refill with fresh G-Oil Synthetic 5-30 and keep current Amsoil EA 15k filter until next time OLM lights up, then change both oil and filter.

2. Drain and refill with fresh G-Oil Syn 5-30 and install new A Delco PF-61 filter.

3. Drain and refill with M1 EP 10-30 and install new Amsoil EA filter and change again after OLM lights up after 2 intervals.

All mentioned oil and filters are from stash.

I am inclined to go with choice #1 and when the OLM lights up again in the summer, go with choice #3.

Your input and thoughts are welcome.

Thanks

Andrew

my dad's 2000 silverado 2500 is getting a steady diet of g-oil too, it is running awesome.

Anyone wondering why the OLM is on after 7 months and 5,000 miles. Seems way too early to me. I had a 2005 Uplander and the OLM would show 10% left at 8,000 miles. Were the 2000 model year OLMs more aggressive?

Good one dude and I totally agree.

I agree with some of the posts about using dino, but only have synthetic in my stash.

To me, there is no use buying dino, when I can get discounted, rebated or free synthetic oils cheaper than dino.

Plus I have only used synthetic engine oil since new, and all oher fluids have been changed to synthetic (p/s, brake, diff & trans fluids).

keep the suggestions coming!

Next week I am changing oil, so I will post what I did based on your input !

and there was no typo. truck only has 48k original miles.

I would change the oil and leave the filter for two OCI's.

But wouldn't use dino as your mileage is low so might be some short journeys or periods of non use which would make me want to provide the best protection possible.

Never used G-Oil but if it is working for you why change a formula that is working.

I am a Mobil user though so would be tempted to change to Mobil.
