Long story short, I replaced my original L83 variable output oil pump 'cause the solenoid took a dump (P06DD). New one is working fine, but noisy/whining. No worse than the old one when I got the code, but I was hoping for no noise.

Are these pumps inherently noisy, or is it an indication I screwed up the new pump somehow?

If it's no louder than the original....I wouldn't be concerned.

I realize the original was stuck in the "high volume mode".....To ease your mind toggle the solenoid (scan tool) & see if the new pump gets noticeably louder.

Once you repair something....All the sudden you have superhuman hearing, Happens to all of us.

Thanks. Based on interweb research, some reports of noise indicate a precursor to pump mechanical failure; while some reports indicate it's a benign condition. I tore down the old pump & didn't see any signs of mechanical failure. Just trying to rebuild my confidence in this truck.
