Gotta posts some real data for that one tig.

He can't even provide anecdotal evidence for that one. When's the last time he changed oil after only 5,000 miles?

At 5K OCIs synthetic will cost more than dino, however if cost is no factor($2 a month more) synthetic provides more protection. Here is a link from XM.

Real data tig, like some used oil analysis showing less wear at 5000 miles or something, not fluff from the marketing department from exxonmobil.
To be honest, from the used oil analysis I've seen conventional oil actually sheds less wear metals than synthetic at 5000 mile intervals,so unless an engine is being operated at the very limits of its design parameters I don't believe synthetic adds any real value, value being less wear, than a conventional at a 5000 mile interval.
Don't get me wrong. I do like synthetics and I use them however I extend the drain intervals so that the cost is justified.
Running a synthetic for 5000 miles in my opinion is stupid. Wear will be comparable using a conventional and the cost per mile decreases.

Clevy, as we know. cheap used oil analysis are valuable for telling the condition of the oil, like coolant, dirt, excess fuel, maybe TBN not wear. Only engine tear down will reveal that. So with my very long experience with Mobil 1 oils, I do trust XM with their testing data, which is the only thing you or I have to go on. Also B_S told me that they can't even tell the differance between conventional and synthetic oils. I have several reasons why I don't waste $ on used oil analysis. I just rely on my long experience when it comes to the oil I use in my engines.

And neither do you. Anaconda evidence is something else!

Hehehe. Fair enough

I think you've been doing 10,000 mile OCIs before I even knew what an oil filter wrench was.

May be so. I still remember sludgeing my 64 Valiant Slant 6 with QS with only 50K on the engine. And that's with 2K OCIs. Conventional oils have certainly come a long way.
