Chevron fuel system cleaner

Quick question about the chevron with techron fuel system cleaner. My wife's Altima is approaching oil change time and I wanted to run a bottle through the car before hand. My dad always said something that I need clarification on..."eh, don't put additives in the gas, it will just loosen gunk up and clog something!"

Any truth to this at all? We've had the Altima since new and it has 50k miles. Always use top tier gas from high flow stations and the car has no known issues. Runs flawlessly.

Should I put in the bottle of Techron?

Techron fuel system cleaner can be used anytime, but I usually use once every other year before smog test. Never had problem with Techron causing fuel system clogged up.

I've never had problems with fuel additives and have used Techron b4. Because it's in their gas you should be fine and it's taunted as being one of the best fuel additive for it's cleaning. I personally prefer the Valvoline Complete Fuel System Cleaner.

Should not be necessary. The additives in the Top Tier gas are taking care of keeping the fuel system clean. IMO the best scenario is to use one brand of gas for a few months so the additives will be able to do their stuff without mixing something else in that may possibly not work as well when mixed. Then run the gas tank almost empty and use another brand of gas for a few months. Their additives may address something that the other brand's did not. If you can rotate 3 or 4 brands like this every year it would probably be ideal. Chevron & Shell seem to be the best of the lot. Now give me a few minutes to get my flak vest & helmet!

I am always looking for the cheapest gas prices to run in my Explorer. Places around where I live are high flow/volume gas stations but are Sheetz & Turkey Hill. For peace of mind using there cheapest gas, I do run a bottle of Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner or Gumout Regane High Mileage Fuel System Cleaner to hopefully clean any deposits every 3000 miles. Explorer purrs like a kitten!

I disagree. I would rather prevent deposits and have constant cleaning with a good top tier gas then to run cheap gas and clean up after it...where you may not be able to get it as clean as if it never happened.

Then - the cost of the bottle of cleaner vs a few pennys more per gallon and the savings might not be what you expect.

That is all well and good if you have a plethora of TT gas stations in your area.

I live in a town of 40K people, and we now have a grand total of ONE TT purveyor
(BP-and that is obviously a recent one.) Somewhat of an offsetting penalty because this one station is 1) higher priced, 2) low-volume, and 3) somewhat questionable as to its cleanliness on its face.

Next closest is 12.5 miles each way (BP/Shell.) Question is am I going to drive 25 mi round trip in an opposite direction to fill my tank? Answer: no.

Now if I had Chevron/76/Exxon's, etc. on every corner at competitive prices, I might agree. However, some of us have to make do with the options provided.

Sounds good. I figure with the quality gasoline the car has had over it's short lifetime it shouldn't have tons of deposits anyway. Will probably hit up AAP and pick up a bottle or two and run now.

As I understand it, the Chevron Techron fuel additive, when used according to the directions on the bottle, results in an additive concentration in the gas which is 10 times the additive concentration in Chevron gas out of the pump.

This increased concentration makes a "one time" fuel system cleanse more efficient.

But why not just dose your non-TT gas with 1/10th the recommended amount of additive on a continuing basis instead of waiting and doing it once at 10X the concentration?

Seems to me this would provide continuous cleaning, no?
