I am about to start using DELO 400 15w40 in my Suzuki GSF1250 and have the choise of the standard oil or the low emission engine version and the same price.
Is one of these options preferable to the other for use in a watercooled motorcycle engine?

400 LE is a low SAPS oil, it will give you less protection against acid build up than the regular 400. That said, 400 LE is probably overkill, you will just need to change it more often.

Both will protect the engine fine. As mentioned, the LE will probably not last as long, but is usually more widely available. Some worry about clutch slippage with Delo, but I have never experienced it. I do say I prefer Delvac myself.

Thanks for the information.
Is there any indication that high SAPS oils clog catalytic convertors?

NO , the low emmisions diesil oils produce less ash, good for cats if concerned. But the only obviuos differnce between the original delo and new, the original delo had about 220 ppm of moly, and the new stuff less than 100 ppm. Both are insignificant amounts.

Personally I have not had good luck with 15w40 HDEO oils in any of my bikes. Not very good sifting and too much clutch drag for me. Some bikes and guys like it tho...just not mine, especially my suzukis. Mine like 10w40 M/C oils with over 1600ppm of zinc and phos. Or maybe it's my left toes that like it the most...
