Oh, come on, SteveS; you can't be serious.
What manner of man are you to suggest that simple folk should trust large corporate entities to make products at price point targeted to the market audience, providing both value and performance for a reasonable cost?
How dare you apply common sense and factual logic (based upon thousands of UOAs and millions of testing miles) to make such a rude and tasteless blanket statement?
Why, just yesterday on the way into work, I saw several hundred vehicles DOA on the side of the road, because of using inferior lubricants, mixing brands and grades, and all kinds of senseless tripe. Don't you know that only Brand XYZPDQ is the best, and lube grade 0w-10,000 is the ONLY way to get from here to there safely?
My dear Sir, I hereby reject your AROBB (Anal-Rententive/Oil-Brand-Biggotry) membership card, and place you on probation!
Serously, though, SteveS is more right than people want to admit. Guessing that 97% of us truly operate within the bounds of "normal" enviornments, and utilize "normal" maintenance plans, most any decent quality brand name oil that is in spec for API cert and grade for a particular application will do just a fine job, and no amount of fretting will change that fact.
