I just picked up a case from Costco, I think it worked out to $2.25 per quart, getting ready to use it in my 1997 Honda Civic, 160,500 miles on it. The car is used mainly on freeways, doesn't burn any oil, and I change the oil about every 4,000 miles. I've been using M1 syn, then a couple of times with Mobil 5000.

I am thinking the Chevron should be no problem going 4,000 to maybe 5,000 miles?

Chevron, from what I hear.....is an excellent lube.

Since you do mostly freeway driving, I would suggest you EXTEND your OCI's to at least 5000, or even 6000. That oil should be able to handle that easily.

I generally feel you cannot go wrong with the major oil company's products, i.e., Mobil, Shell, Chevron, etc.

Chevron is excellent oil at a good price. I ran that oil for a period of time in my old Legend sedan a few years back.

Honda recommended drains of 7500 miles when your car was new on what would then have been API SJ oil.
You could certainly use the Chevron for longer than 4K with mainly freeway driving in your moderate climate.
This is reputed to be a very good oil.
How long does it take you to hit 4K?
You could probably double that with freeway driving and none of the temperature extremes we see here in the land of ever-changing weather.
I know that you won't really do 8K on conventional oil, although Honda apparently thought you could on an inferior spec oil.
You could do 6K drains, though.

I do 4k in about 3 to 4 months. My trips are about 100 miles at a time.

In that case you could change the oil every 4 months and have a clean engine.

Okay, so the car is mainly long tripped.
Six month drains would probably work well for you.
Use a filter known not to suffer media failure.
Any Fram filter or anything made by Wix appears to be pretty reliable in this regard.
In this mature and well cared for engine, there won't be much to filter out.

I've been using the Pure1 filter, but I am thinking of trying the Fram TG filter.

I'm unsure enough about Purolator oil filters right now that I wouldn't buy them.
Frams have gotten plenty of slander here, but they've never exhibited the consistent media failures we're seeing with Purolators.
I'm not in full panic mode and I'll use the Purolators I have in stock.
I just won't buy any more of them even dirt cheap until we see some evidence that an apparent design problem has been resolved.

Are the Fram cartridge filters ok?

Fram cartridge oil filters are okay, but you can buy better German brand oil cartridge filters online for less.
