They may not cache oil. They may have no ADBV

Could be. Maybe there is an oil pre-pressurizer on that engine that fills them before each start.

Those engines look similar to Waukesha "Thunder Pumpkins". Pretty neat.

I dunno

I've tried finding out what the filter numbers are for them from suppliers ..but to no avail. The images are too low a resolution to see them.

These are mostly used in gensets/cogen/marine applications. They're not frequent starters. It would be a senselessly messing engineering oversight if they do just spill out over the mounts.

As was my Peugeot 504 Diesel. Both were mounted rather high (near distributor level, iirc, on the slant 6) which would allow them to drain forward.

I had one of those. My first car. Never changed the oil as I only had it for part of a summer. Blew out the tranny seal trying to jungle patch a lawn. Some guy bought it for $75, poured several qts ATF in and drove off leaving a stream of ATF down the road.

I had the slant 6 in the 199 cu in version. Ran it to 187,000 miles without ever needing to have a valve cover off. I don't remember the oil filter being an issue at all. The slant 6 like the 4.0 I6 Jeep would run to 250,000 miles with minimal care. Too bad they have been replaced with Aluminum block/head efficient engines that turn to scrap with one overheat problem.

Ever watch him change the oil? Probably good to let it cool and sit overnight or those filters will make a big mess.
