Check out the spread between unleaded and premium- Go Buc-ees Go!

Katy, just outside of Houston....the only Bucee's I've been to. What a junk store! I don't see the appeal. The car wash looked nice, but I was in a rental so that didn't help. The store is 3/4 of junk, who wants Bucee's pajamas? They had like 50 premade sandwiches out at 8 PM. Who wants an old sandwich that has been sitting out under a heat lamp for hours?

Understood.

But some travels want a quick bite for a brisket sandwich and buy some Beaver corn nuts, T shirt, cold drinks especially if you’re with the kids.

My last round trip michigan/florida I only filled at Bucees. Diesel was way lower than any of the truck stops, super clean bathrooms and food head and shoulders above any typical gas station. They know what they are doing.
That’s a good summary - they are not out to compete with the better restaurants - it’s what my gang calls a smash n grab 😷

Once a station has an underground storage tank that'll swallow a semi trailer full, economies of scale don't really apply to the spread between regular and super. Yes I'm sure Bucee's has a great deal with the local tank farm and transportation people because they buy so much, but they also don't gouge their customers on Premium like nearly everbody else.

No matter what one thinks of them you have to admit it takes some stones to build them. It's a "thing" right now so everyone will stop in once to see what it's all about. Been there seen it and didn't buy the tee shirt. I won't break the rythm of a road trip to hit a Bucees.

There's a newer Bucees that opened up in Springfield, MO in 2023 but it's about 116 miles from home base. I'd fill up w/93 all year long at those prices.

There is a nice discount on gas if you get a car wash too. Everytime I am there though I have a trailer and I dont think their car washes are trailer friendly.

On the way back from Florida i saw a few but was in a hurry to get home as it's a 900 mile straight ride.

Next time I go back I'm stopping ✋

But the pumps are - it’s unwritten rule how the guys with trailers flock to the far end pumps for easy pull through - others flock near the store …

Understand your position. However, you'd be amazed how many sandwiches they turn. If you have not had their brisket, well ...

The one I frequent in Temple I try to find (and usually dont have a problem) an outer pump on the far side, so its only a matter of backing out slowly, then park far away along with the other long boys/girls. Why? Because everyone else uses the pump for their 30 min parking instead of being courteous and shifting to the ample outer parking :(

Absolutely agree with you.

While on vacation this summer, my wife and I stopped at a Buc-ee's in Tennessee. Didn't check out gas prices, as I only buy gas at Tier 1 stations. But the "convenience" store was a total madhouse. Parking was insane, and this should have been the warning to me of what the inside would be like. I've seen less crowded conditions at Disneyland. It was an absolute nightmare.

There are some cool things. I was drawn to the huge jerky counter, and bought a few types to try. The brisket sandwiches looked interesting, but again the store was so overcrowded that there was no way I was going to fight the crowds for a sandwich, that I suspected was only good because it was smothered in bbq sauce. All the Buc-ee's branded items seemed totally over the top, in that it was on everything, and prices were nothing special. My wife couldn't resist and bought an insulated bag and a tote. When we got home and compared them to others that we had, I realized that the Buc-ee's items were pretty cheaply made and undersized. We will probably never use them.

They recently announced that Utah is getting a Buc-ee's. I may give them another chance, after giving the opening excitement a chance to die down. But if it is as much of a madhouse as my first experience, I will never step foot in a Buc-ee's again.

Current prices at Springfield Buc-ees: 2.61 reg; 3.24 mid; 3.34 prem; 3.16 diesel. Costco is 2.61 reg & 3.34 Prem and is much closer when I go to my sister's house, coming from the northwest.

I have been to a couple in Texas travels; restrooms are good, rest doesn't interest me much. Most truck stops are that way for me, too. Stopped at quite a few Loves travel centers for the 10 cts off gas this summer. Their cheddar sausages are pretty good.

I remembered that the bathrooms were really clean when I stopped at one in Texas years ago: that's impressive for an operation that size.

I was not impressed by the food prices but we didn't try anything so can't comment on the quality.

I saw on the news that one is in the works for a 2027 opening in Oak Creek, WI so I'll have one near where I drive occasionally.

I wish we had that premium price spread like that. Iowa three years ago had premium for only 30 cents more at Sam's. I went back this year and saw the spread was now the $1 we see I my area. (Actually, at many stations $1 more for premium would be a good price. Many stations are even more (I've seen $1.20 more).
