I am considering buy a used Chevy Equinox for my daughters. I hooked my blue driver to the vehicle and it shows a light reset 253 miles ago.
That was the same time a dealer service was done. Does a dealer service/maintenance light reset appear on a scan tool as a CEL reset?
Thanks.

Nope. Wife has an Equinox too. If the scan tool shows a CEL reset, that was for the check engine light, not a reset of the "change oil soon" message and oil life monitor. Questions are, will it come back, what was the fault, and did they fix something during that service? Chances are pretty good though that in 253 miles it hasn't come back, then maybe it really was fixed, especially if it doesn't show any stored codes.

Thank you Dave. I figured as much. Now will the dealer tell me what the CEL reset was all about?
I did Auto Check and CarFax as the vehicle checked out, not that that has any CEL implications.
The 2.4 ecotech is slow ! Great kid car.

You can ask the dealer, but they may or may not have documented it if it was something simple like a loose gas cap. For something like a bad cam phaser solenoid, O2 sensor or cat converter I'd expect they would have that documented somewhere. I'd be more concerned if it showed permanent codes that haven't cleared. Some codes can't be cleared until it passes its own diagnostics, and sometimes those diagnostics only happen under specific conditions. I could see how a shady dealer might take advantage of something like that to hide problems.

Well Im not very familiar with the blue driver but as far as I've seen all I can see is the last CEL reset.
Miles and time will tell the tale. I do have about 4 months of factory warranty. I hope any
problems will manifest themselves by then. Thanks for the info folks.
