i really want to change my oil more frequently because i love doing it. i currently do all city driving about 10 miles a day to school and back. within these 10 miles i also beat on the car from time to time. speed when then engine is still cold. ect. this car is a beater anyway but i want to get a oil and filter that would be cost effective to change lets say every 2.5k miles

whats everyones view on supertech oil and filter? or is mobil clean5000 cheaper?

Changing oil every 2500 miles is a waste of money, and not necessary. If you love changing oil so much, maybe get a job at Jiffy Lube? :)

I agree with Patman.

soapbox

With oil prices skyrocketing, and no relief in sight, it's not only unnecessary, it's a waste of this precious resource. I realise that it's a drop in the bucket compared to gasoline use, but every little bit of conservation helps.

/soapbox

Having said that, I know what you mean...I start to get itchy at around 4,000 miles and feel relieved when the big 5k finally gets here and I can break out the ramps...

at 2500 miles just get a clean drain pan, drain the oil, remove the filter, pour it into the drain pan, reinstall the filter, pour the oil back into the car, top off as necessary.

run it for another 2500 miles then change oil and the filter or run the filter for another 2500 miles.

Why do you think I got a job at a Wal-Mart TLE for a year?

Don't agree with the 'waste' comment, never do - if you recycle properly, the oil goes back into the usage stream, and get a 'second go around'...better than it being used only once....just my opinion, doesn't curry much favour here!

get a job at jiffy lube, haha....mobil clean is only 1.97 at wm...super tech is very good oil and so are their filters according to blackstone

I really believe that today's decent running engines will reasonably go 5k miles with any oil/filter combo. Extended OCI's are a different matter, but 5k is no problem for ANY house brand of oil and filter. Peruse the UOAs and you'll likely come to the same conclusion.

Sure, OCIs are fun, but too many are also a waste. Want to OCI and feel you're contributing? Perhaps find an elderly person or otherwise mechanically challenged person and offer to OCI for them for the cost of the oil/filter. You get the joy of living vicariously, and it costs you nothing but 20 minutes. And the good will of paying it forward can't hurt either.

That, my friend, is a VERY good idea...shows you're part of the solution, not part of the problem.

haah actually i do want to get a job at jiffy lube but i donno if they would accept me

Change the oil in your parents' cars. Set it up that you get to change one every 2.5k. Then each car would go at least 5k miles between changes and it will scratch your itch.

I think Autozone has a special of five quarts of Peak Oil and an STP filter for like $10...

Hard to beat them apples if you're lookin' for cheap.

You're right about the recycling, but used oil isn't 100% recycleable... there is some waste by-product. In addition, the recycling process itself uses resources. Bottom line, it is a waste to change the oil that frequently... from both a financial and environmental aspect.

I don't think I worded my comment correctly. I didn't mean to imply that the oil got "wasted", what I meant was that it is inefficient to change out oil in such a short time period. I do agree with you that recycling is like a second go-round, but the very act of performing that recycling uses energy...I still say it's better to leave the oil in for a more appropriate time than to unnecessarily waste that energy in recycling it too soon.
