I was at harbor freight the other day looking around and I saw this http://www.harborfreight.com/engine-cleaning-gun-68290.html. When I first saw it I thought wow this is almost exactly like the oil spray gun I use. I know it's for cleaning your engine but I see no reason why it can't siphon up oil and spray that instead. The things I really like about it is the fact that it's cheap because I know some of these purpose built oil guns can be expensive and it siphons from a long hose. With no bottle being screwed to the bottom you can spray upside down without sucking air. Grab a 20% off or 25% off coupon from here http://www.hfqpdb.com/ to really get the price down. Remember never shop at harbor freight without a 20% off coupon and a coupon for a free item. You can only use the free item coupon once per day but the 20% off coupons can be used on each item you buy as long as you have enough 20% off coupons.

If u are thinking of using it to siphon oil from the sump for an oil change yes it would work...but it would be a mess. It would be spraying a mist at 60psi..

That's not correct. The 20% off one item coupon, has a limit of one coupon per person per day. I usually bring the wife and kids along and then I can buy 4 things 20% off ;-P

Looking at the picture, I have that exact spray gun that I bought at least 30 years ago, and have used it for lots of cleaning products, and even very light oil, and it works great.

I have used this gun for years with good results. I paid $15 for it

The coupon says it cannot be combined with another coupon for the same item but it does not say limit one per customer. At my harbor freight if I buy three items I can use a 20% off coupon for each item.

My oil spray gun has a can that screws to the bottom and I found it almost impossible to spray underneath a vehicle because the oil kept flowing away from the pickup tube. On mine I stuck a hose from the pickup tube to a separate container where the oil is stored that way I could turn the gun any which way and oil would keep spraying. I have never tried the harbor freight gun but I thought it was nice that it already siphoned from a separate container so you can spray upside down.

The end on the HB tool might do much better getting into certain areas.

Such as?

Anywhere you can't fit your whole gun/fist/arm. Probably much more suited to a simple uni-body car. I would not want to use it on my Wrangler without a lift, lots of hidden territory that is difficult to see and places that overlap. It would not work that well going into openings in full frame vehicle where you want to push in and cover a good length.

That may be true, however my experience is different. I have been oil spraying my own vehicles for 15 years, and maybe done 50 of them. There has not been a place I have not been able to access. Keep in mind the oil will spray out 6-8 feet from the gun, so doing doors and box frames is easy. It helps to have the vehicle raised on jack stands, so you can swing the gun down and point it up. Also keeping the can full of oil will allow you to hold the gun horizontal to do rockers and other areas.

The HF gun from what I see will not allow for a thick oil to flow out the nozzle...Also, you need air in volume to blow the oil out, and thats why shutz guns work so well.

The people who design the guns take all these needs into consideration.

Shark, have you ever oil sprayed a vehicle?

The "correct" way to do this is with the type of gun sold by corrosion X or car well.

The gun itself looks a lot like the OPs, but the oil is fed through the line to the gun. There is no second suction line. The air pressure forces oil up the dip tube and out the gun, with the nozzle atomizing it.

But I can't tell what equivalent there is other than hand-pressurized chemical sprayers.

Not really but I plan to, that is why I'm looking at this thread with interest. A few weeks ago I did the melted candle wax, mineral spirits, 30wt motor oil mix and spray with a hand spray bottle that was in another thread on here. What a massive pain that was. 6-8 feet of spray is hard for me to wrap my mind around. I'll need a hazmat suit.

You never need to use the 6-8 foot spray as you hold the gun close to th target...when doing rockers or fenders is when the spray distance helps!

I have a gun very similar. 20 + years of use. I tapped the spray nozzle to accept a brass fitting and can attach nozzle spray hose for inside doors rockers fenders quarter panels tail gate. etc.
Works great for me!
