cheap coolant for 05 Hemi 5.7?

My brother-in-law and me agreed that he would do one of my school projects (we're in the same class) and I would change his coolant (and ATF).

He has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2wd with the 5.7 Hemi at about 100,000 miles... I'm gonna do my own mix wiht distilled water, but I don't know what coolant these Hemi engines take..

I believe it uses G-05. The NAPA in my area has Zerex G-05 for around $10/gal for concentrate. That's nearly as cheap as the generic Prestone dexclones. The only problems is I think the Zerex is dyed gold like Ford's G-05a nd Chrysler's is dyed orange. This isn't really a problem especially if you drain all the original coolant out.

WOW thats cheap for G-05, My Napa sells the Peak Global Lifetime, but not the Zerex, and it's 15 bucks a gallon.

I don't remember what my NAPA wants for peak Global. I want to say less than $12. My Napa has everything Zerex Green, Dexcool, G-05, Asian Formula, Peak Global and housebrand version of Dexcool and Peak Global.

MrWidetires, Chrysler and Ford use G-05 the same as Zerex G-05. You should be able to find G-05 at Ford dealers, NAPA, O'reilly's, Kragen, Shucks.

it uses g-05, the chrysler people deemed it necessary to be different and dyed it orange. It's G-05.

Ford Gold is Go5 but dyed a different color. Only $8something a gallon when Ford has a sale.

I wished Walmart around here carried G-05. they might have at one time but all they've carried for quite awhile now is dexcool and clones.

Coolant : G-05 ONLY!
ATF : ATF+4 ONLY!

G-05 for antifreeze and ATF+4 for the transmission. Using the gold G-05 is perfectly fine.

Yep, its the same stuff except for the dye- you can use Mopar or Zerex in a Ford just as well as Motorcraft or Zerex in a Mopar. I use the gold (Zerex) most of the time.

The red (Mopar) is a lot easier to see in the surge tank, but the danger (if other people service your car- not a problem for me!) is someone will think its Deathcool and put that crud in there.
