Cheap batteries

I have a $30 EverStart in my Lesabre. Unfortunately the car sits all winter so I usually have to replace the battery every year. That's OK though, 1 year warrantee.

If you use the car all the time, expect it to hold up better. I've seen them last alot longer. Make sure the battery has enough CCA for your application too.

Why don't you put a trickle charger on the battery every once in while in the winter to keep it from discharging totally and killing the battery. Those trickle charges are cheap and a lot cheaper than buying new batteries each year

so far 18 months..on an everstart walmart battery. I just bought a diehard battery charger and charged it. it only took 5 seconds to charge literally with a 2/10/50 engine start amp

I do try. But sooner or later I just forget and the battery gets drained. Hasn't cost me a dime yet.

I think I may upgrade to the $60 battery this year. The $40 has top terminals.

I purchased a battery maintainer at Walmart for $20. Puts out a full 1.5A when in charge mode and when charged switches to trickle mode and only kicks on when needed so there is no danger of overcharging. On my motorcycle which has no electronics running when the key is off, the light only comes on every 30 seconds or so for a second. On the Impala it comes on about every 5 seconds. It came with ring terminals, lighter adapter and aligator clamps. I leave it on the Impala during the week and switch it to the bike during the weekend.

If the car sits outside, a solar charger works well to keep the battery charged.

The battery in my boat is at least 5 years old...it's just a cheap store brand battery. And it sits all winter every year, plus my outboard charges it at about 16 volts.

When it comes to batteries, all brands are made by a only few companies. These companies do very similar to how oil filter companies do.They make the filters but put other companies names on them.Wal-Mart batteries should be made by either Johnson Controls or Exide. These two companies also make batteries for several others. All Wal-Mart does is have their name(EverStart)put on the battery.I have a WM battery in my car right now,it was made by Exide, says so right on the label.
Many people may not know this but heat is the worst thing for a battery. Many may think that cold is worse but its not.Heat can really hurt a battery and cause them to fail much sooner. If your battery has any kind of cover that came on it from the factory,DO NOT remove it,it helps keep the battery cool.
Another thing, always check the water level in the battery,if the level gets to low,it can ruin the battery. If water is needed, always,if possible, use distilled water to top one off with.Tap water usually will have some minerals in it,these minerals can effect the battery and shorten its life.

Four years on a $35 EverStart in the BMW (vs $140 for a $tealer battery) and still going strong. Since the battery rides in the trunk, it doesnt cook from engine heat.

CCA's and months of warrranty are not the end-all in battery selection. A few stores (Autozone, Sears and maybe others) have batteries made differenty for hot climate areas. They do have lower CCA's but so what if you live where it never gets much below freezing.

I can't speak for the $30 walmart battery but the $40 DT-3 in my dakota is a few years old and going strong. They now have the DT-3N which may have changed slightly... but if I were to need another I'd get another DT-3N.
