This is my brothers 2011 165 Chaparral 4.3 getting close to the 20hr first OC mark.
Recommend oil is Mercury MerCruiser Full-Synthetic Engine Oil, 20W-40, NMMC FC-W rated.

Anyone using something different in this engine or had any good/bad experience with the Mercury oils?
Price is not an issue its about the best oil for the engine.

I have done used oil analysis on Mercruiser 25w40 and it sheared to a 20 wt after 50 hrs in a new 350 Mag engine. Won't use it again. Not seen a used oil analysis on their synthetic yet. Will run one at the end of this season.

Now, you are under warranty I assume. The Merc oils satisfies your warranty and should prevent you from an argument in the unlikely event their was an oil related failure. For that reason only I would stick with the Merc labeled oil through the warranty period. After that, evaluate options. Many, including me, have had good success with HDEO in a 15w40 wt.

I just change the oil in my boat. I was running quicksilver 25 w 40. I probably have 25 hours on this oil but I can tell that it has thinned out from fuel dilution. I replaced it with mobil 1 synthetic 15 w 50. lots of people are running this oil in their boats because it meets the api requirements. at least it meets the requirements for my volvo penta 4.3gxi. just remember that if you are buying the engine manufacturers oil it is not their own. it is just relabeled. more than likely it's just oil that is from the lowest bidder. I would just figure out in the owners manual what weight oil they want you to use and what api ratings they require and just make sure your oil mees those standards. change every 50 hours.

Thanks for the replies. Over this next week i will be looking at RP and Redline options also for use when the warranty is done.

I just replaced a 4.3l in my buddies 1990 year boat. rain great, buddy swapped in a bluit up 4.3 vortec. the other engine he used what ever 40wt/15w40 hdeo he can get at work. i still have the other moter in the corner of my barn to transplant in a blaser project i have on the back burner ride now.
