filter guy, i called up a buddy of mine in miami that imports engines from overseas, including japan.
he told me that japanese engines have no more sludge in them than our engines have over here.

How many miles are on these Japanese engines that are being imported?

most of those (if similar to those I'm familiar with) have under 30k. Not exactly sludge candidates under most definitions.
