I have a 06 Civic SI with 20K in miles and I tend to drive it pretty hard. I was thinking about changing my transmission fluid over to synthetic...any down side or recommendation for doing this or not doing this.

Why do it your ask? Driving habits and just plain makes good sense for the life of the transmission it would seem. This car does have a third gear shift issue were it pops out of gear..it is not uncommon on this car becausce of the shift pattern..my neighbor has an Acura that does the same thing.

Any manul tranny fluid you folks would recommend?? Thanks all.

My 2006 Scion tC calls for any GL-4 75w-90 gear oil.
I went with Redline MT-90 synthetic, and I am very impressed.

Shifting-feel has improved, much easier to shift in cold temps.

MT-90 is a large step-up in visc. I changed to Redline MTL in my 06 RSX at 7500 miles and liked it enough to do it again at 40k.

How do I find out how much fluid my tranny holds??

A lot of the oil companies know this too, if you can't find a service manual. I know that the guys at Redline know, anyways. Once I emailed in to confirm a driveline application and they also responded with the capacity.

Awsome fluid that is miles ahead of the OEM fill. I changed mine out @ 10K miles and the shifting is now like butter!
