Changing oil too often

I think it’s a bit ridiculous to have time-based OCI tied to a calendar. A car can sit in the garage all winter and the amount of oxidation is tiny because there was no fuel burned and no heat applied to it.

I often hear of Corvette owners who change their oil in the fall before storing them for the winter and then in the spring they change it again! It’s even crazier because most of them go to the dealership so they are wasting an extra $200+ every spring

These discussions always devolve into the "Cheap Insurance", "Waste of money and resources" and "My driving style is special" arguments. Empirical data has no place in it.

"cheap insurance" is the overwhelming argument in all the other, car/brand spesific forums. I see people changing oil every track weekend because "it is a cheap insurance" only to find a used oil analysis thread of @TiGeo with 3 track days,
7 autocross days and enough miles to circle the earth twice, and that oil still looks pristine

I recall a few years back on here reading about protective chemical layers being partially stripped off early in each oil change from
fresh detergents, etc. Don't know if that's still a supported thesis.

I think this applies to changing brands/blends due to different additive chemistry and the fact that some oil remains in an engine at each oil change. You can see this in the first UOA after making a switch to a different oil.

If using the same oil out and back in, I don't think this applies.

Excessive oil changes lead to early failures because of poor workmanship like stripping the drain bolt, using dirty funnels, cheap out of spec -approval oils and 10 year old junk filters because RA had them for $1.50.
I suspect most damage is done by lousy drivers with no mechanical sympathy.
Tongue in cheek but these oil change every minute dudes need a hobby...

different additive package in a oil do compete, that is just expected. that leading a catastrophe is the "hysteria" part

It is a real thing, for instance you wouldn’t want to run two different chemistries for an extended interval as you won’t know for certain about the oxidation rate or TBN retention
