Have you done any used oil analysis to see if your oil is good for that long? It may be, but you'll only know for sure by doing a used oil analysis. I would have no problem doing 10K OCI's on M1 without doing used oil analysis because I know it's that good.

I would take his oil in a heart beat, but he lives in Arkansas and I live in Ohio and it's illeagal to ship hazardous waste through the mail.

How is it hazardous? If it were, how can UOA be sent through the mail and be legal?

Because a used oil analysis is a small enough of an amount that it's legal. Shipping quarts of used oil would be illeagal.

Really? Then how do you order gallons of oil from our shaffers sponser ...or mobile product from Avlube?

When you transport suphuric acid ..you're under DOT regs. When you trasport "used" acid (spent, waste products, etc.) you also fall under EPA (in PA= DEP) regs. One is a corrosive ..the other is a toxic corrosive ...it may or may not be classified as hazardous. You have all kinds of "site and owner of origin" specs to assign the liability of environmental impact of the substance and have to certify the contents.

Apply the principle accordingly.

Because it's not USED oil.

I have a 1993 Honda Civic DX with 122,000 miles on it. Have used synthetics in it since 1,300 miles. Most of the time, I used Mobil 1 5w30 with 5,000 OCI. Everything that has synthetic oil in it has been fine; i.e., engine and manual transmission. What went at 90,000 miles was a "lubed for life" bearing in the distributor. Sounded like a thrashing machine on my way to a Christmas party. Cost $114 for a new Honda distributor housing. That's how things go with cars--often the totally unexpected.

I have four vehicles in my care, two of which I keep on 3K OCI.

'97 wrangler 4.0L - It's had Mobil 1 since the first oil change every 3K and it runs like new......which is crappy, but not much I can do about it. I keep it on 3K intervals because it sees only short trip driving, 10 minutes 2-3 miles is very common.

'01 SAAB 9-5 Aero - This has been on and off of mobil 1 depending on where the oil was changed. I keep this on 3K intervals for 2 reasons. 1. It has a flawed oil pump and pcv system that makes it prone to sludging and lose oil pressure when wear occurs. 2. It sees no highway miles, 40 mile commutes 5 days a week, and I tend to drive the bejesus out it.

If I buy the oil at Walmart, it's cheap insurance. I don't care much about the jeep, but it'd be more of a hassle to replace it. I looooove the saab, and I'll do anything to keep my baby. Plus it's only about 3 changes a year, no biggy. That's about $75 a year in filters and oil, cheap insurance indeed.

Mobil's new line-up, Clean 5000/7500 Mobil 1 Extended Performance 15000 mile guarantee should be able to let guys, who obviously have little knowledge of lube performance, sleep better after the 3000mi benchmark.

Changing Mobil 1 every 3k miles is no different than a large number of other auto care practices that border on decadence, so let the guy enjoy himself. What's the big deal about using 5 qts of oil in 3k vs 5k or whatever miles ?
