Changed my vehicle batteries

How did the training go with your daughter? I have 3 for my own sanity I never attempted to train them on anything car related but I regret it now considering there all with guys that are far from handy. Great guys but really useless to even check the oil level.
As well as one could hope. She’s a nurse practitioner so extremely book smart…common sense, not a ton. Her husband is an engineer who designs agriculture equipment, so very hands on, but lazy as a 15 yr old hound dog. Once she grasped the concept of putting the jump box together (and why) it was smooth sailing. In the end her question was “why don’t I just call triple A”.

I just replaced a 7.5 yr-old Autocraft Silver battery (bought @ AAP in 7/2017 for $79) with a $69 Walmart "EverStart Value" battery. Old battery still worked but I noticed slow cranking on cold mornings. Advance Auto no longer seems to sell Autocraft and the DieHard brand costs $140. It's a bet that the $69 EverStart Value will last 4 years or more. Real world inflation is absolutely brutal.

Here's the one mentioned a few comments up. $90, cheaper than most batteries and way easier to lug around. Will even boost diesels.

GOOLOO GP4000 Jump Starter 4000A Peak Car Starter (All Gas,up to 10.0L Diesel Engine) SuperSafe 12V Lithium Jump Box,Auto Battery Booster Pack,Portable Power Bank with USB Quick Charge and Type C Port https://a.co/d/hkYnEAL
That one isn't available here in Canada but there is a Nexpow on sale for $89.99 Canadian.

Gets tested everytime I turn the key. Like I said, keep an open ear and listen to how fast it cranks with a good battery. I usually start all my vehicles with the door open so I can hear. You won't hear much with the door closed
I do the same, I start my truck in the garage with the drivers door open so I hear everything very clearly.
Now I have this Ancel tester hooked up to my battery so I can monitor it constantly and check the charging system whenever I feel like it.

I had a 6 month old efb battery die in a week at Detroit airport and it took a half hour for triple A to get there. Which was record time btw… Hats off to them! There will always be a jumbbox in my car after that. Takes up no space and will figuratively saves you from saying lots of cuss words. Even with roadside. I charge it up, which takes a half hour on the way to where ever you’re going.

I was young and dumb back then now that I think about it, replacing that battery that was still good, but I don't think i've ever had it where a battery was just dead one day. Usually it gives you a warning for a couple weeks beforehand. In a way just changing out a bunch of batteries for the heck of it seems like throwing money away.
It's happened to me once - February 2018. Beastly cold, of course, with a howling wind. This happened while dropping off used furniture for a poor person in public housing, because no good deed goes unpunished.

2009 Kia Sedona, original battery. I had load-tested the battery (with a Schumacher 100 A unit) before winter, and the battery passed with flying colours.

It had worked well through several starts earlier that day.

We came out from the apartment building after unloading, and the battery was dead. No death rattle of solenoid or anything.

I wonder if it had dropped a plate or had a related mechanical failure.

Our son drove over and boosted us, and I bought a new AGM battery and a booster pack.

The AGM battery lasted six years. A bit disappointing.

The new battery is a conventional Kirkland.

This is why I don't like replacing batteries that are only 4-6 years old. I've personally had a few last around 10 years. However they can randomly fail at any time, but parking in the garage allows me to monitor it regularly in my truck. My wife's car I might replace sooner because it's more likely to leave her stranded. She has a 5 year old Kirkland I'll be putting my charger on this afternoon.
