After putting it off for quite some time, I figured 120K on the OEM belt was enough. I wanted to have the place where I go for most matinence (Other than DIY) do it, but they charged $95 and I got the belt on Rock Auto for $25. Easiest thing I've ever done to my truck. Took only about 25 minutes to take off the old and put on the new (Dayco). Never thought it would be that simple!

I envy you. My old Audi took about 6 hours...both headlamps, all 3 radiators, and the front bumper had to come off.

Good lord. Didn't have to take off anything but the old belt!

My Father tells the story of him changing a belt, and it flying off on the Highway while he was going 65. The car instantly turned itself off and the belt destroyed the power steering pump on its way off.

Some cars are easy... other cars you need a PHD to figure out what the heck they were thinking.

WOW! And I thought having to take off the entire intake manifold, and ALL of it's connections/vacuum lines/etc. in order to replace the oil pressure switch/sender unit on my car, was bad!

Hah. Seems like you have to take off fewer parts than that to replace the timing belt in a Subaru, let alone the accessory belts!

Gotta love putting the car into "service position".

Till recently, I've always bought fairly simple vehicles... Have changed two timing belts in parking lots, along water pump, ign, modules, etc... Mostly when I've looked at vehicles that almost nothing is accessible or don't even recgonize what the components are, just closed the hood and walked away...

To be fair, Audi gets major kudos for the ingenious design of the tensioner. My father, an automotive engineer of 30+ years, looked at it and instantly said, "This is a really smart design."
