what kind of oil were you using in your honda before the maxlife?? maybe your honda loves that oil than most others.. i have to agree that oil shouldnt have too much of an affect but with a combo of things it deff could. if you think it works great then stick with it and dont change.. btw 3k miles on that oil is too soon. you should easily do 5-7k miles on that oil with your honda.. i would stick with it, it works and its cheap.. also if its regular maxlife then its around 30% syn in it.. not too shabby for the price

M1Accord here. Been busy at work. Just pumped today and wow ~ 43 mpg. I squeezed gas lever to "top it off" just to ensure I am not crazy. This could be due to my long trip to the gun show and range last Saturday. The trip was slightly over 300 total.
This is awesome since gas is going up again here. Man, what a wonderful oil and wonderful Honda engine. I am very happy now.
I can't explain this phenomenon so I just post to ask if everyone experience the same issue with any oil in any vehicle at anytime in their driving life time. I am one of those nut that calculate my mileage every pump and write it down. I like to know I am on top of my vehicle performance.

I used Mobil 1 regiously on all vehicle, hence the name M1Accord because my main vehicle is Accord. My grade has mostly been 0 or 5W20 but sometime I just pick up any oil on sale, synthetic and conventional. This Maxlife 5W30 is dino and I bought it because I suppose to get a free Mechanix gloves after rebate. I am still waiting for my gloves.
The second reason I use Maxlife because I want to help my condition my seals and other parts of the internal engine as claimed by my Maxlife. The Civic has ~230k miles on it. The first reason was that it was on sale and I heard so many good things about Valvoline MaxLife High Mileage oil so I had to try it for myself. Oil was 11 bucks for 5 quart at Walmart. I like trying new stuff as I hate think "what if I did that. Why didn't I do that." all day. Oil is cheap so I figure I experience this.
Few weeks earlier I told you guys I am taking my Accord on a trip out West with 3 friends. I just changed my mind and decide to take my Civic instead to see if this is true or just pure luck miracle in few fill up. The trip is about 8k miles so I will change the oil out at 5 while on the road. I am taking my drain container to keep the old oil there, then dump it into the empty new oil container or water jug, then dispose it at quick lube place along the way. I will do the oil change myself somewhere out there as I do not trust quick lube place.

I hate to disagree but "winter formulated" gas (at least around here) gives a very measureable reduction in mpg across the board. By that I mean in motorcycles, carburated large V8 truck motors, fuel injected cars, etc.
ACROSS THE BOARD: no kidding. MEASUREABLE: as in minus 10 to 15%, or MORE!

We just had the oil changed in our Mariner V-6 Duratec. The Vehicle had Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic 5w30 in it. We averaged 18.5 MPG for the past 5K miles. Had the oil changed at the dealer with MC 5w-20 during some warranty work last week, and so far MPG is down to 17 on the milage monitor.
