I have had a few slappers here in a fleet of GM V8's, and all have exhibited the noise for less than a minute at startup only. One particularly bad example would do a bit if you revved it in nuetral as it fell back to idle. All the engines lasted well longer than the trucks around them, just sold an 04 with 500k miles on it and it ran perfectly.
+1. My bro in law bought a 02 Silverado when almost new and had the pston slap issue. He did change over to Mobil 1 5w30 Extended Performance and he claims to noise has been slightly less, but the engine now has well over 100K and still runs very well with no additional noise or oil consumption.
+1. If the 5w-20 is noisy, just go for a 5w30 as its in fact the oil recommended next in line for this Honda engine!
