Is it ever fine under the right conditions to leave synthetic oil in for two years? I get a lot of flak around here for telling people they can go one year-GGGoooooddd forbid I say two years-so im assuming two years is out of the ?.... If so what might those ideal conditions be?

Worst case scenario I see is moisture getting in the oil if it goes from cold to hot a lot in that period of time.

Other then that, oil sat in the ground for millions of years and did just fine. I wouldn't even worry about it with dino oil for two years.

Edit: If you're driving it on and off those two years and not storing it is different though. It could mean a /ton/ of very short trips which would be rather hard on oil. Storing it for two years though, big deal.

Many car manufacturers in Europe now suggest a 2-year OCI.

I regularly go nearly two and have gone three... with good UOAs. Storage and operational conditions are the key. It should be parked after a good, long run with the oil gotten good and hot and kept that way for a decent duration.

2 years is not a long time. But for your own situation, do a UOA. I've done plenty and found it to be no big deal.

One to two years is do-able if few short trips and a long life oil/filter combo (quality syn/hdeo). Also for cars not driven much, yet driven until engine hot each time, a year or more is also do-able.
For most situations, a year is long enough, even with long life oil and filter. Short trips and cold weather age oil faster too. And if there are any issues with the engine such as rich mixture, misfires, etc, oil can go out of grade, get contaminated, and leave engine with less protection. Plus, many people just don't bother to keep the crankcase full by adding new oil as needed. More frequent oil changes are more dummy-proof for the masses.

My Camaro gets 2yr/3000 mile intervals. The iron is a tad high, but all the other numbers are fine.

I see absolutely zero problems with it.
