Just read this over on driveaccord.com, supposedly there is a way to change out your transmission filter on the Accord 5AT's. I know about dropping the drain nut and then filling up with 3 quarts of ATFZ1, but the filter? News to me. Anybody know anything short of dropping the whole transmission?

I just ran a Magnefine 3/8 inline filter on our 2001 Accord V6. Then the factory filter (did not know they actually had one) will never have to be changed.

What "factory filter"? There's only an internal mesh screen. Unless the new generation Hondamatics have undegone a profound morph, there's no pan, either. In other words, no way to clean the screen short of removing and breaking open the split transmission case. (Yeah - try that as routine maintenance some Saturday afternoon on your driveway . . .)

That's what I thought. But on that forum, one member said it's possible to do that without dropping the trans and that many people did not know about. Yeah, right.

Yes, there is a element type filter on Accord v6 and canister on i4.
I think Honda started to put it from 2004. Change of it is kind of similar to engine oil filter change with element type filter. Look item # 7 for V6 or #4 for i4. in System/Component chose "AT oil level gauge-ATF pipe".
