I just picked up one of these Champion EZ start spark plugs for my mower, the regular champion lug was 1.79 while this one cost 2.49. Has anyone tried this plug? It claims easier starting and has the nickname "the one tug plug".

yes. they last much longer. performance or starting they are the same. perphaps its better material or a little hotter? i havent changed a plug in my briggs push mowers in years with these. for the .40-.70 more they are worth it. i use a denso iridium in my lawn tractor and the silky performance, starting and what was left in my tank was very noticeable.

I tried one in the snowblower last winter ('04/'05) because it always took 5-6 pulls. First time starting... 2nd pull, since then 1st or 2nd pull every time.

I tried one in the lawn mower last summer based on the success of the winter... same results.

I've now used them for two winters and going on 2nd summer with great results.

I have good luck with Champion EZ start plug in my B&S 4.5HP tiller motor where it would previously took 4 pulls to fire it up; now, with the exact carb settings and what-not, it only took 1 strong tug/or 2 gentle pulls to fire it up...

Sounds like we have a winner here..

Isn't that the one with an air gap (where the electrical charge has to build sufficent "force" to bridge the gap inside plug)?

Used to make these for cars. Idea was that the electrodes got a bigger jolt as a result.

I think I recall getting these for the TECUMSEH motor on the mower. Often sold out at the HD and Lowes.

The old Champion "U" series plugs were of a booster gap design. Primarily used for old, weak magnetos that didn't put out much voltage. It supposedly helped them start better.

I still have a couple old Champion UD21 plugs for a vintage John Deere tractor laying around somewhere. I used to collect odd/antique spark plugs, and still have a few of my favorites.
