You'll see that Wix/NAPA Golds are moving to louvers. My last Gold 7356 had holes. The current 57356 had louvers. The last couple 51358 examples I used also had louvers. I have no problem if they're open. It's just a nuisance to have to check.

Including the louvers, looks fine to me. One thing I keep in mind when accessing louvers based on pics alone, there's many more of them than holes and they open in two directions, one opposite seen. I like to see the pics of light applied to the centertube like 'roofless' did not long ago with an STP spin on. Shows a better indication imo than shot down centertube

While these Champion filters show similarities to Champ Labs US filters, louvers, similar looking element and blue colored dome bypass. Differences like coil compression spring and recessed bypass and of course coo there too.

Thanks for c&p.

I grabbed 4 of them last week. Just showed up today. Just changed oil recently in both the Hyundai and the KIA, so won't get one of these on until late July.

I agree with your sentiment. I never use dented filters. The dent is actually stretched steel, which could compromise the impulse resistance of the can. Positive displacement oil pumps create pressure pulses, which stress the can. Impulse resistance is actually a test that oil filter manufacturers will perform. (Reputable oil filter manufacturers)

Always a gamble with oil filters in the mail. I've had my ups and downs with it. Usually the dented ones get dissected for posterity.

@69torino, I contacted Rockauto and they shipped me out a new one. Great customer service. Hopefully this one arrives in good shape.

Good to hear they are making it right.

Just grabbed 20 for our 3 cars. Shipping was $9.99 for 6-20 so might as well average that cost down some. Should be good on filters for about 3 years.

Edit Didn't realize I'd already commented here on the Champion filter anecdote. I just add, this one looks very much better than recent one (COS16) posted purchased at RA. Being kind, very unimpressed with that one.

Might be cheaper to do?

No wasted metal is my guess. Sure you can recycle the holes you punch out, but that's another step in the process, and likely more labor in there somewhere to deal with the recycling. So, yea, cheaper in the long run is probably right.

Yep nothing to haul away or recycle.

I cut the core out on one that looked fairly tight …
once removed you could view at the angle it was broached and it was actually plenty wide.
