So... I understand that without knowing the exact makeup of the media, I can't know for sure - but my Champ 2867XL's that I just bought from Rock Auto appear to be the exact same filter as the K&N PS-1010 that I paid $3/ea last year when Amazon & Walmart were clearancing them.
I know this probably isn't earth shattering news since they are both First Brands filters, but I just thought I'd share the info 👍🏻

Sure look similar! I couldn't get K&N nor Champ to reveal the efficiency of the PS-1010s, I tried. They're both Champion Labs made Ecore synthetic blend media filters, likely similar to the older non "A" suffix Mobil 1s. Not that they're necessarily bad, but it amazes me that K&N, for an alleged "performance parts" company, can't give out ANY information on their products!

I know, I don't understand why they're so tight lipped? Oh well, these XL's were still a lot cheaper than the K&N now at regular price!

Because no company wants to show mediocre or bad performance specs. Some companies will tell you their filters efficiency specs are "proprietary" ... biggest side track excuse I've ever heard. Next, car companies will be saying their car's HP and T ratings are "proprietary". 😂

I am inclined to believe that the K&N filter media is no different from that which is used on the Supertech filters. I could be wrong but anecdotally I recall years ago reading that K&N's filtration efficiency benchmark was roughly equivalent to that of a Fram orange can, which today is roughly equivalent to that of a Supertech. I would speculate that it is the same filter media in a stronger can, probably the same can as what is used with the Royal Purple filter.

LOL, true but the XL claims 90% at 20 so the K&N is either using a cheaper media, or missing out on a great advertising opportunity!!

I believe the Champ XL's are about impossible to find now anyway. I know the rock no longer carries them for any of my applications. They can be found NOS on FleBay, but for around $9/ea. I'll stick with my under $2/ea regular Champs. I've been through a bunch of Champ PH48's. I cut every used one open. They seem well constructed for the $.

For whatever reason, Champ XL filters aren't listed by application on Rockauto's site. But if you know the part number, you can order them by searching for that part number. To find the part number for the filter you need, search here: https://www.champlabs.com/brands/champ/
