Champ ph2005 oil filter cut open

I bought this from rock auto on clearance for $1.69 per filter and I have yet to have any issues with the ph2005's or the ph2840's that I cut open. The media rips a part with a little effort but the media seems real uniform not too spacey. The one issue I have with the ph2840 is the adv is pretty hard after 3,000 miles due to it being a nitrile adv not a silicone.

What is the date code on the can? What did you replace it with?

Walmart does stock the silicone PH8316, and Wix does still make the 51315. The TG8316 and 51315XP are non-stock items, but you can order them. There is no Ultra XG8316.

Hastings also makes a good filter for the Zetec, LF483. However, it uses a black ADBV and might not be the best choice for extended OCI use. But Hastings does know how to make a good slotted center tube.

The aforementioned Fram, Wix, and Hastings part numbers are the only ones I'd use for the Zetec.

I'm new here how do you change the angry face thing I'm not even mad lol the data code is II30I2Ff 15:44. I bought a few motorcraft fl400s from farm and fleet that I'm going to be running next. I may try the Hastings oil filter after that having heard very good reviews on them.

What I can see, looks fine to me. As for adbv, unless color completely off looks be a silicone adbv. Never seen an orange nitrile adbv. And a google search will reveal it's cousin Luberfiner PH2005 also made by Champ has a silicone adbv too.

At 3k miles though, I'd expect it to look good. For what you paid, imo you got your money's worth. I'd add relatively speaking, that's a huge filter application for a Focus.

Thanks for c&p.

Real nice buy for $1.67

Good question. I think they still make them cause on there website it shows the original champ filter and the synthetic on on ChampLabs.com I never see these oil filters at auto parts stores like advanced,O'Reilly, napa etc... but I do see these sold on rock auto, Amazon, and eBay. Rock auto is the cheapest of them all. Last time I checked they were trying to sell one of these filters for like $10 on eBay without shipping and handling.

I do however think that rock auto's inventory of these filters are mainly old dated back 4-8 years old that are on clearance. I don't know how to read the data code so my thought is mere speculation. I did have a shipment from them one time with these champ filters that had a little rust near the gasket area and inlet holes which I cleaned off and still used.

Yes, these Chimps have the anti-siphon valve. Here are some more pictures of it (the Service Champ OF5230 is the exact same filter as the PH2005)

I'm not sure if Champ actually makes these anymore.

If they do, then fine, yeah they are decent filters for a normal OCI. If not, then just stick to Fram, Wix, and Hastings.

Good shot of the anti-siphon valve. The vehicles that require this type filter must be very sensitive to and affected by a dry start condition. Normally just a relatively brief rattle if adbv compromised, generally speaking hardly a death knell for the engine.

As for it being Champ Labs made, no reason for me to believe otherwise. The compression spring is a classic Champ design, which in thier lower/lowest tier filters serves additional function of bypass, clicker type.

Since January 2017 UCI Holdings, Champion Labs parent owned by a management triumvirate of Blackrock, Credit Suisse and JP Morgan.

AFAIK, it is and never stopped. Always been their own labeled jobber filter line.
