I am looking to implement AI assisted system at work. It will increase productivity -- some manual processes that are done in triplicate will now be done with one click.

It will free up the labor but there are no plans for FTE eliminations. We will re-assign this labor to places where we will get value.

It's already very difficult to find competent employees.

AI folks are pushing AI bcs. well, they want to sell their product.
Businesses are trying to maximize profit, so they will embrace it.
In the end, there will be adjustments.
Based on what I see, you better hope medical schools do exams using the blue book, bcs. AI is bad, it is really bad at trying to deliver for students.

Like any new comprehensive tool it creates opportunity, and becomes a nexus for change.

My son to be former employer is in the process of deploying AI throughout the business. The expectation is that in some areas AI will end up augmenting employees rather replacing them. For example imagine a lender QC'ing 1-3% of their originations to something close to 100%. Humans would review and cure the "red flags".

Ai will grow at a similar curve of fully autonomous vehicles.

Just like there was a lot of hype about vehicles being fully autonomous from the getgo of the concept, it's taking much longer than originally expected by most back then. Fully autonomous would not require any input from occupants for ALL trips other than to input destination, tell it to start journey, and maybe reroute during trips for in route change of plans such as food, rest-stops, exc. Stearing Wheel and other controls would be for sport use only if the vehicle even had them, and require an authentication code so when unqualified young occupants were the only passengers they could not obtain control.

All that may happen someday, but we ain't there yet.

Similarly, true AI will progress in steps, and the journey will be extremely longer than most realize.

For applications where the current state of AI works it will seam to some that it can be used for all applications. But that will be extremely longer than anyone realizes.

I don't think this is necessarily true, in terms of them staying rich. Lots of places have had very wealthy people controlling the economy, with very poor populations consuming almost nothing but producing something of value to keep the wealthy folks in luxury.
But in the past, the wealthy needed the people to stay "in line" and produce something. If conditions got bad enough for the regular folks, then the people quit participating and "burned down the castle", or caused some other kind of revolution. Like the end of the Soviet Union.
If/when AI and robotics advances to the point where they can replace almost anyone doing anything, then its possible the very wealthy will either actively or passively exterminate the majority of the population, as they don't really need them anymore?

Robotics and outsourcing took away many blue collar jobs. Now AI will take away many white collar jobs. The same white collar jobs who brought in all the robotics and outsourcing which took away blue collar jobs. What goes around comes around I guess.

At big companies there are people doing absolutely nothing except being on telephone conferences and mumbling some silly corporate synergy jargon buzzwords about metrics / leveraging team to meet goals, etc…

Nobody knows what these idiot mid level managers actually do but they are able to fly under the radar.

AI,....this is why I always say thank you to Alexa and Siri. When the machines become self-aware, they'll say, "Hey, that guy was always nice to us, we'll spare him."

That's no different from any sort of technology break through in human history. We will find something that is easier to be done by human eventually.

If you look back in history there were way more people growing food than today, then people who manufacture, etc. We will find something new to do like training AI or watch for AI malfunction and call tech support etc.
