If you are stuck in a Cold War mentality of Us vs them. We have allies that have and still use some iteration of a Kalashnikov.

The Kalashnikov was designed for use by conscripted peasant boys. It has served its purpose well.

And it ended up being so darn good the Israelis based their Galil off it after their FAL's did not do so hot in the sand during the Six Day War...not to mention the Finns with their excellent Valmet.

To each his own, I guess. I don't discriminate when it comes to military firearms - I tend to like them all and more uncommon the better. I have plenty of beautiful American firearms, too.

M1 Carbine, M1A, and M1D are probably my favorites of the bunch.

I would love a Galil, however there are legality issues here in California from what I have been able to investigate. I would have to have it converted to use a bullet button.

Yeah, of course given their wackadoo laws. If I lived in Cali and needed a modern sporting rifle I guess I would be looking into a modern production M1 carbine, M1A, or a Mini 14/30.

Funny thing about that. I have a M1A SOCOM II. I had one of the Magpul angled fore grips on it and was told that having that particular grip made it an assault rifle. However if I switched to the Magpul hand stop it was fine.

Sporting?

"Sporting rifle" is the PC term for ARs, AKs, and similar. Went up today and filled out the paperwork, boy that was a lot of paperwork. I get to go back in 10 days and pick them up after I cool off.

The quality seemed very high. It was made in the USA with all new parts. Sights were straight. One will stay with wood furniture while the other will get the full Magpul kit.

I got 2 RAS47s. They had to have the magazine release modified to require a tool to use. However next year I can register them as an assault rifle and take them off. As of Jan 1, 2017 the sale of semi automatic firearms with a removable magazine are prohibited in California. I wanted to act before I couldn't get one.

Also ordered a .458 SOCOM barreled upper. Should be receiving that either Friday or Monday. I have a few AR lowers that are in need of uppers.

Check out this channel....they beat on AK's pretty hard. The RAS47 has a few issues to be aware of, but it made it to their 5k round beating mark, which some don't. I have been considering the V39 milled version to add to my 7.62 collection of an old ban era WASR and a PTR32.

On that youtube channel I posted (AK Operators Union), their Inter Ordnance AK died at just over 1,500 rounds through it. They are probably one of the worst assemblers since Hesse Arms.
