Yeah, I don't understand all that myself, but it's their $$ to $pend, $ave or $quander as they wish.
I just hope my new "near-free" phone on the way will have decent battery life(specs say it should), better than average to excellent reception(mebbe not- internal antenna only
), and lasts out the year of warranty. After that, I'm sure TracFone or Simple Freedom will have another "phone for a year" deal & I'll probably move on to that.
While I need a phone, I don't use that much time & prepaid is right for me. Just got off the easy-mopnthly-payment-treadmill, & ain't goin' back!
Poor old Uncle Stu, just doesn't know how behind it all he is with his stock phone cover plate, stock ringtone, no leather holster, no headset, no bluetooth, no IR, just a phone.
Oh well, at least this one will have a camera- & it was still "almost free".

prepaid is good if you get a good deal on minutes, I have like 3,000 rollover mins cause I hardly ever use it - only thing I did buy though was a belt holder thing for it for $7 at walmart - not sure I would need an electric blanket for it though, then again he might get cold!
Personally, I am just recently getting hooked on all these accessories, although not the appearance-related ones, but more functional. I got a smartphone from work. I bought a 1 GB memory card for it and a bluetooth GPS receiver. I use it for navigation in my car.
Go ahead, crucify me now. :|

something functional like a memory card, something practical like a protective cover and/or belt hook, etc. are useful things, and very few would be so cheap to deny the utility and practicality of utilitarian 'enhancements'. Its the $100+ aligator skin type cases and whatnot, which you can be sure arent solely bought by people with bank accounts in the six-digits and above, that are the 'issue'.

Well, I have lots of fun gadgets, and I also max out my 401k contributions.
I have a house with 4x the equity that I paid for it 7 years ago and I think it's a nice balance.
All I was trying to say is that if people are too stupid to save for their futures, then let them eat Kibbles 'n' Bits when they're 65.
Life's too short not to enjoy it, and I don't think my consumption of gadgets and other fun things makes me an idiot who's got no priorities.
I like nice things - I buy exotic boots and iPods and LCD TVs.
You gotta enjoy your life.
I also just bought my first new car in 12+ years.

Scott, I buy stuf within reason too. I own 5 cars, and Im only 26 (2 of them new, none of them cheapo econo cars). I also own a house (well, its mortgaged). I hold no bebt other than the mortgage.
Obviously you've made some well-thought out choices, as have I. Unfortunately, the demographics do not indicate the same realities for many an esteemed member of our nation...
And therein lies the problem; its like the trans fat thread we have on here. People should do what they want, until it costs me for their bad decisions. We can be relatively sure that nobody will be eating kibbles and bits when theyre 65, or they could have had multiple strokes and heart attacks when theyre 65, or whatever. Its the point when the bad decisions cross with requiring more funds from the public trough to fix... at that point their bad choices ARE a problem, and they start to be MY problem and YOUR problem... Because after all, we are the ones that made the right decisions...
Its not about living a happy or dull life, its about making the smart decisions to set yourself up for the long term enjoyement of life.

Having been born in Montana, I grew up wearing boots. As a kid, mostly "roughouts" which are leather inside-out, or suede. Kinda the working man's boot.
As an adult, I still love boots, but I like them hand made and with some of the exotic materials like Ostrich and others. I won't mention them because I don't want the board PETA members on my case.
