Watched Dateline NBC lastnight, featured the recent mid-air of the two sky diving airplanes a Cessna 185 and 182. Disturbing yet miraculous. For any one who hasn't heard, a group of sky divers went up in two airplanes to jump at sunrise. The airplanes collided in either a descent-onto or ascent-onto scenario. The 182 lost the starboard wing immediately. As the wing departed the airframe the fuel flared and ignited creating a fireball. Each airplane had jumpers on the strut ready to jump but hadn't jumped yet at the time of collision, as well as some inside. Everyone made it to the ground under canopy incuding the pilot of the 182. The 185's airframe remained intact and the pilot was able to make a safe, if not perfect, power-off landing. Quite amazing.
