A couple of years ago one of my credit cards with no spending limit reduced their benefits. As a sweetener to stop people canceling, they offered 5% extra cash back for 3 months.
This period nicely coincided with a large payment to the IRS and also my property tax payment. I earned about $500 extra cash back on just those tax transactions (net of credit card processing fees)
