OK, so we all know about rotor runout, and improper break-in/bedding. Still, I was pondering why my new-to-me, old, low-mileage Camry ended up with rotor glazing causing serious brake shudder, as it had no runout to speak of. Of course, I don't know its entire history since I am not the first owner, but an incident with a kamikaze driver taking a left exit from the right lane while going 1/2 the prevailing speed, causing me to activate ABS, got me thinking.
The ABS, on my cars anyway, is fairly rhythmic and even in pulsation. What if the ABS pulses "on" hit, more often or not, the same spot on the rotor all the way down to stop, while the system was already hot? Sounds like a recipe for pad imprinting.
