I wrote a short while back and since we cuss and discuss so much about cars, I thought that some may enjoy this:

It started back in ’79 by borrowing the family car,
I knew I’d be going places, but never thought this far.
Some were curvy, others boxy, but all built with love,
I’m sure that I had help from someone up above.

The first one was a golden hue and born in ’72,
I was always amazed at what that old Ford could do.
Old friends and first dates and beaches and waves,
The spirit of a teen-aged boy caused some close shaves.

In ’80, I dreamed and saved until I bought that sapphire ‘bird,
The wandering call of the open highway deep inside me stirred.
She had a few facelifts in her time and a powertrain or two,
I’m sure I had misty eyes when I had to finally bid her adieu.

So many sports cars; some really fast but none really slow,
I’d sit behind the wheel and they would beckon me to go.
A few had automatics, but I surely craved those sticks,
The boys on Highway 90 always had to take their licks.

I look back now at the mile markers that I’ve passed,
Far more than a million miles now and it’s still a blast.
I’ve owned more of them than I’ve probably had a right,
And reminiscing about them now sends my soul into flight.
‘Cause If I had a dollar for every mile that I’ve rolled,
I’d have a small fortune neatly stacked in gold.

The dreams of that young man had to be placed to the side,
Letting go of my youth was hard, but I gained another ride.
That ’91 Chevy was great, but I lost her six months to the day,
A head-on wreck from a drunken fool and they took her away.

Two more Chevy trucks were followed by a major lifestyle change,
Then me and that new red ’95 ‘bird headed out to the open range.
On I-25, my right foot was too heavy and so I spun a bearing or two,
An emerald ’96 Corvette that replaced her never made me blue.

Though that ‘Vette ran like a top and she drove like a song,
I had to say goodbye to her when that first baby came along.
Another Ford truck with all of the usual perks took her place,
Strollers, bottles, and diapers made me thankful for that space.

Before too long a second boy arrived and thus the pod grew,
I found myself in the position of looking for something new.
A mini-van made some sense, but to that I’ll never succumb,
Growing older, yes, but I’m still much too dang young.

A compromise was found in the form of a grey Tahoe in 2003,
A sleek Corvette it’s not, but a mundane mini-van it’ll never be.
Like so many of the others, no grass grew under its wheels,
Backwoods and coast to coast, it was the source of many thrills.

In Yellowstone, I happened upon a GMC Acadia cruising in style,
The Chevy was soon replaced by a sister from across the aisle.
In just three years’ time, she rolled more than 100K on her clock,
Forcing me to choose another from the nearby showroom stock.

With ebony for her tint, leather, and a stylistic FX4 on her side,
A 2010 flex-fuel 3-valve F-150 was selected as my new ride.
Like her predecessor, she’s trotted more than 100K in only three,
But I must be getting older, ‘cause I think she’ll stay with me.

Inanimate for sure and familiar as a mate, they anchor our memories,
For recalling at later dates, just the same as well noted documentaries.
They seem to pass through our lives much faster than the wind,
Making and sharing some of our memories just like an old friend.

Far more than a million miles now and it’s still a blast.
I’ve owned more of them than I’ve probably had a right,

Excellent! Very well done!
