Females spray, too. Less, though. I was under the impression the OP's cat used not to pee outside the litter box so something must be triggering this behavior. It’s what male cats do.

Haven't seen this brought up yet. Is he fixed? Toms spray if they're not fixed. Best to fix them young so they never develop the habit (comes with sexual maturity). Always get toms fixed. Females will do it when they're in heat. Love ours to death, but prefer dogs. Wife's a cat girl. LolMy male cat has taken up peeing in the house by a wall. He has a clean litter box that he poops in.
I am frustrated as to what to do except getting rid of my pet, whom I like very much.
Any cat owners who have solved this problem and solved it humanely?

There is a link between diabetes and UTIs. Urine contains normally little to no sugar but in diabetic humans and animals, there is glucose present in the urine. Glucose is a nutrient for bacteria and yeast.Had a cat that peed down the drain of the bath tub . I think it was either urinary tract infection or diabetes .
Not unusual when something is medically wrong. It’s not unusual when cats aren’t feeling well for them to pee outside the box. Definitely needs to go to the vet.My male cat has taken up peeing in the house by a wall. He has a clean litter box that he poops in.

He was diagnosed with diabetes and lived for 5 (6?) years after during his 17 year life . Gave him a shot(s) every day before his wet food . He would stand still while giving him a shot between the shoulder blades . Very laid back cat . Many fond memories .There is a link between diabetes and UTIs. He did end up having a pretty long life. Diabetes in cats is not unheard of. It could have been due to age or due to an episode of pancreatitis. He was lucky that he didn't develop kidney disease as a comorbidity. Cats have very fragile kidneys and kidney disease means they are on borrowed time, I suppose you had to check his blood sugar a few times a day.
