ATF+4 Castrol vs. Valvoline transmission fluid same price

All licensed ATF+4 is the same! Whether it's Castrol, Valvoline, or Walmart brand, it's all the same because of Chrysler's childish, overly rigid licensing program. Not only do they require a specific group III base stock and add pack, but they also stipulate the suppliers of said components. it's not just a spec. So just get the one you can find at the best price.

That said, the best ATF+4 for an out-of-warranty Chrysler transmission that requires it is Redline C+, which is not licensed and cannot get licensed because it doesn't use the required group III base oil (Redline prefers to use group V).

But if you're not going to use Redline, then go for the cheapest licensed ATF+4 you can get.

Castrol is not my favorite motor oil but I've always found their ATF's to be top shelf. I've used their Dexron VI, IMV and ATF+4 and was always very pleased.

Their oils are probably very good but I was never a fan because their PDS don't tell me much (and they usually appear to be on the thick side of their grades.)

Thank you. That's good info. I'm trying to decide to with go with Castrol or Valvoline I was trying to remember I might have used it once just on an oil change but not for transmission

How could you tell it was thicker, just by the appearance??

You can't.

A few tenth's of a centistoke viscosity difference wont matter.

My choice would be Redline C+ as well.
