Castrol Syntec Comparisons-Opinions

I've read here that Catrol Syntec is not a true synthetic and that many think it's over priced. What would Castrol Syntec better compare to then? I know it's composition is better than a synthetic blend, but would it better compare to that?

Better do a 'search'...that's what it's for. You will be reading for days...

It's a group III synthetic and a a 'real' synthetic just as gr. IV and V oils are.

Comparable to any other $3-5/qt. Walmart oil...

Unless we're talking about German Castrol Syntec 0W-30, which is a "true" synthetic.

The search continues for the "Holy Grail of Oil" as the elves no longer make the german green syntec. The Gold syntec is a good synthetic but has not been "totally blessed yet" as everyone is waiting for UOA # 1000 to confirm suspicions !

If you do search in the UOAs of the Castrol syntec, even the non-GC Syntec have some good UOAs with 10,000 miles on them.

But Bill, UOA results are meaningless in the face of bickering over base oils. You know that, yet you dare even bring it up.

Is the problem that the label is synthetic, the price is synthetic, the oil may not by synthetic. No matter how good the oil is, I'll bet some people left Syntec because they lost the faith. If you wear the brand name of the oil like a badge, there is a difference. I think that's why this topic lives.
