Castrol Act>Evo oil

Anyone use this stuff? Is it any good? Castrol says it is a synthetic oil that "clings" to engine parts better then other oils even when shut off.

Well, it may be a good oil but I've become somewhat suspicious of Castrol's marketing ever since they redefined the meaning of synthetic oil to include group III base oils. The Actevo is "synthetic based" - does that mean it's a synthetic or is it really a synthetic blend? As for clinging to engine parts, that probably just means that it has some ester (group V) as part of the base oil mix. Mobil 1 motorcycle oil, Motul, and Redline have esters too.

It meets JASO MA and should be just fine in a wet clutch application, or one that calls for 10W-40 or 20W-50, IMHO.

I don't think it is necessarily the perfect oil for extended OCI's, but fine for the standard as recommended by the manufacturer.

Last summer I put a full 4000 miles on my GL 1800 using Act Evo 10w40 and a Honda filter. Blackstone did the tests and I was not really happy with the results.The oil had become a 10w30 because of shearing and the TBN was down to 1. In other words, the oil was wore out. Wear metals were ok but I wouldn't reccomend running the oil as long as I did. My test results were posted here in bitog but I really couldn't tell you where to find them, except they were posted in the motorcycle oil test section.
