I have some new and old bottles of Castrol 80w90 gear oil. Both are GL-5 but the new bottles say limited slip and the old bottles say hypoy C. Is there any significant difference and can I mix the two types for use in my 1992 Toyota 4x4 pickup front and rear differentials?

there's no harm in adding LSD additive to a regular diff, but I can't advice mixing different generations of fluids. The chemistry is likely different and you could end up with a fluid that works less well than the 2 you started with.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't see Hypoy C labeled oil when I bought the new bottles and the store is the same one that I bought the hypoy C from a few years ago. My initial thought was that it was the same oil but they just changed the label and did away with the fancy name. Maybe not though...

Here is the Castrol Limited Slip at Canadian Tire.
