I won't get into the all the HVAC current system shenanigans in our house we just moved into. But just want to ask. New propane furnace and heat pump.

I want input on two manufacturers. Give me all you got. Good, bad, ugly.

Carrier vs. Lennox?

GO!

Why not consider Trane?

What about heat pump only solution?
Trane has not come up in any of the bids.

Heat pump only? Maybe.........love propane for energy density and frankly yes expense per unit, but a 500 gallon tank and just us two, it will last. More importantly, the gas heater part is not that much of an cost adder.

I have a brother that has worked in HVAC since high school. He is now a commercial refrigeration tech for a grocery chain. He use to do commercial work for commercial restaurants and businesses and didn't like Lennox. Lennox only wants to sell parts to authorized Lennox dealers at the local supply house level. So he was expected to be a salesman when he ran into the random Lennox system.

Of those two Carrier. Who still installs Lennox? You west coast people have it strange out there.

Just last year we replaced our 4 ton system in May followed by our 3 ton system in December. Both 16 seer Trane units, both with propane furnaces. Prices went up so much in the seven months between that the 3 ton cost a hair under 20% more than the 4 ton. Crazy.

Some of our bids had Carrier and they carry a decent warranty (10 year parts/5 years labor I think?). Most companies sell maintenance contracts that generally extend the labor warranty on the system as well. It's worth knowing the intricacies of the warranty and maintenance contract.

I’ve got one Carrier and 3 Lennox systems and so far they’ve been trouble free. The Carrier has been installed for 3 years and the Lennox systems 7 years. Natural gas furnaces with AC. As is often mentioned, I think the installer makes the most difference, especially with the higher efficiency/newer technology equipment but sometimes that can be difficult to discern.

I replaced an old Ruud system with a Carrier coastal unit three years ago and it is very good. Installer quoted me a price way less than the other brands. Otherwise just get the General Altimax RT43. :D

My house was built in 1970 and had a Carrier A/C and electric forced air furnace . I bought my house in 1994 and replaced the electric forced air furnace with a Trane natural gas furnace and a 4 ton Trane A/C unit. The original Carrier A/C system was working fine 24 years later but I replaced it with the Trane based on the installers recommendation when I replaced the electric furnace shortly after moving in. I did have to replace a start capacitor last year which has been the only repair on the Trane in 27 years. From my personal experience I would go with the Carrier over the Lennox but would also consider the Trane as well.

Had Lennox natural gas forced hot air heat in our first home over 20yrs ago. Unit was from the mid-late 1990s. We never had a problem with it, but I've had several HVAC guys say Lennox is kind of a pain because most of their parts are Lennox only and not shared across other make/models. This was eons ago though.

Carrier (which spun off from United Technologies) has a bunch of brand names. The way an installer described it to me, a lot of the big players have several brands to differentiate even if much of the heart is the same. Carrier seems to include Day & Night as well as Bryant.

Carrier i believe has the most efficient mini split available right now. If your choices are propane and electric heat pump for heat i would let the efficiency stats make the choice for me.

Looked into Lennox but as Skyactiv said Lennox is a mixed bag and here in MD. Parts take forever to get. I wouldn't go that route. Owning one cuts down your servicing options too.
