2020 silverado 2500HD 6.6L L8T 130k miles

in service 13k miles

out/off: 8 quarts HPL PCEO 5w-40 with carquest premium 84593

in/on: same but with Carquest Extended protection P84502

looks great as always. this truck is still consuming some oil, looks like the HPL is still cleaning though.

Thank You for all your hard work today. Kinda anxious to see your Honda filter and your wife’s Honda filters cut open too

@BrendanC thanks for your C&P’s
Questions for you:

Pictures are of a used 84502. I assume that “84593” is a typo??

And, I noticed you’ve been running these”10k” 84502 filters out to 12k+ miles. But now you are installing some “extended protection” versions. Is this a “just for the heck of it” or “just because I should,” or some other reason??

I just picked up a couple 10k Premium 84502 , but intend to run them longer, is why I’m asking…and with HPL. So I’m concerned/interested if I should return them for the more expensive extended protection versions? I need to search for where I thought I read the EP versions are not as efficient.

Your thoughts?

it was a typo. i’m installing the EP versions because i want the mesh backing. i’d trust the premiums even further if i had to.

I believe the Carquest EP is 99% @ 25u instead of 20u like the Carquest Premium. But the EP is rated up to 20K miles instead of 10K miles for the Premium.

OK, not as big a it a difference as I had thought. I’m pretty new to this new generation of “best cost effective filters non-US filters. I had my eye on a Pentius XL off Amazon, but the ones for $9 disappeared. I haven’t really deciphered Microguard and STP yet, but like that I could look at the CQP before buying and the open end had a plastic (cellophane) seal which allowed me to peak inside, meanwhile protected from moisture, dirt, and critters. And supposedly efficient as any for 10k.
